Keep in mind two things:
1- Both installations, basic and custom, should to work better if the hard
drive where the SPDatabase is stored is a high speed drive (SCSI at 10K rpm
or IDE at 7200 rpm - Of course, use SCSI if you can)
2- In a custom installation, the network speed between the two machines is
important too. 10 Mbps/half duplex is a nightmare... 100 Mbps/full-duplex
works OK... a switched network is a plus.
Remenber... everything that you see or query into the SP Console comes from
the SPDatabase through the Application Server.
I hope this help.

Yes I am experiencing slow application response; I am running SP 2.0.
However, I have everything running on one box; Application Server, Event
Collector, Enterprise Database, and Deployment Manager.
I am running them on a dual 1.0 Ghz Pentium III Box, with 1 GB RAM.
I have since been told by ISS that I need to be running two separate boxes,
one for the Application Server, and the other for the Event Collector and
Enterprise Database

Subject: [ISSForum] Siteprotector and Java..so slooooow
Still running RS-SP 1.2 but soon moving to SP 2.0 and i have a
question tough which falls under developing/performance category of
this application.basically my question is ISS plans to develop
Siteprotector as a java application.I'm not much into app developing
but from my experience similar applications running large amounts of
logs and which are not developed in java but as standalone ones run
way too much faster than those on java.Whenever i try to
filter, switch from one sensor to another or whatever task available
in SiteProtector Console , it takes so long that i find myself
invoking task manager to kill Siteprotector task.
Anyone experiencing the same? Sloooow applocation response? I have
some expectations about a better performance on SP2.Haven't tried SP
2.0 still tough.
