We had a couple of brand new systems in IT that were getting the Blue
Screen of Death whenever Real Secure Desktop Protection was being
installed. After researching the issue I found the problem to be a new
feature that Windows XP SP2 offers but is seldom enabled called DEP
(Data Execution Prevention). The two systems that were affected were
Gateway e-4300s that were shipped from Gateway last week. Below are
instructions on how to disable DEP on a system (This is not Gateway
specific).

1. Boot to safe mode and log into system.
2. Right Click on my computer and click on Properties
3. Click on the advanced tab. For the startup and recovery area
click on settings.
4. Click Edit to Edit the boot.ini file
5. Under the operating systems section modify the highlighted section
below. We are changing the text from saying /noexecute=optin to
/noexecute=alwaysoff
