There is a documented and supported procedure for this now.  Take a look at the 
SiteProtector SecureSync documentation.

Well... The procedure to take back the DB after reinstalling is not that easy.

One important things is to backup the IDS key, Sensor and component keys.

I don't think you will find on documentation how to do this activity.

Some time ago we did a procedure to do that in case of disaster, but I didn't 
test it with SP5.

Ask iss support if the support a procedure to take the db after reinstalling.
