@gnodet — following up on my 14 Aug note. waterWang/maven#1 has had no movement and the fork has been quiet since 11 Aug, so with #12731 now milestoned for 4.0.0-rc-7 I've put both halves into one merge-ready PR as an alternative vehicle: #12841. It is @waterWang's commit from this PR cherry-picked verbatim — authorship preserved — plus the compat-copy commit on top; CI there exercises the two changes together. Whichever route is less work: - this PR picks up the compat half (@waterWang merges waterWang/maven#1, or a committer pushes the commit here directly — maintainer edits are enabled), and I close #12841 immediately, or - #12841 merges as the single PR, with @waterWang's commit and credit intact, and this one closes.
