When something goes wrong, "invalidate metadata" can cause a hang while waiting
for a catalog update that never arrives. There's a TODO
(https://github.com/apache/impala/blob/1d72c7584fd33746b17826c1dc54a1819fce9ec5/be/src/service/impala-server.cc#L1612-L1620)
in the code to set a timeout instead of waiting indefinitely.
