Thanks for the comprehensive reply [~tarmstrong]. I do agree with your points -
killing queries should be a last resort and we should fix the root causes.
IMPALA-1575 is a big deal and it'll be good to start to see that being used
more. I find it slightly counter-intuitive that idle query_timeout doesn't
actually kill queries, just puts them into a "waiting to be closed" state, with
no mechanism to further evict them if required. I'd like to test whether
idle_session_timeout does this.
