[~boroknagyz], sorry, misread the code review.
Random unrelated point: when I tested above, I reverted
ca516ecb6423c3433403227799ae38badc387b81, still saw the failure (without hang),
then reverted b84075f7f0067c54a340872e5ec1814398310318 and the test passed. It
is possible the hang is some interaction between the two (or maybe this is
unrelated). Thought I'd mention it.
