So, quite a few words, no fix. The question is: what are we trying to fix here? 
Do we have real tests failures or production bugs to fix? Or, is the current 
mechanism, albeit a bit clunky, good enough for the job at hand?

In short, doesn't the use of version numbers make this bug moot?
