Another approach could be like with istio mixer, with adapter interface

This way can support any number of adapters to support anyones preferred
metric collection technology, and other infra tooling.
e.g.
Prometheus, Influx, DataDog, CloudWatch, Circonus, Azure Monitor, StatsD,
WaveFront etc. etc. the list can be quite long.
