Nice catch. I thought I tried this at the time, guess not (or had a stale
workspace, or perhaps just forgot it was manual and believed it _was_ being
tried by the tests). As you've just noted on PR 4331, it actually needs
completely overhauled (or else probably removed) going forward, but it would be
nice that it worked the old way first first, so...tried and merged.
