Long time no release. It's time change that. :)
This task is created to encompass all the activities needed to release [Ambari
2.7.6|https://issues.apache.org/jira/projects/AMBARI/versions/12346843].
[branch-2.7|https://github.com/apache/ambari/tree/branch-2.7] includes some
important vulnerability fixes and also has fixes to make Ambari decoupled from
HDP. This became necessary as all versions of HDP repositories are pushed
[behind paywall|https://www.cloudera.com/downloads/paywall-expansion.html],
making this and all previous Ambari versions unusable for typical users in
their current form.
The proposal is to release Ambari after testing and documentation updates, *as
is*.
Uses cases for Ambari 2.7.6 :
* Users having local HDP 3.1.x repositories can continue using it with Ambari
2.7.6
* Users having their [custom services and stack
definition|https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/AMBARI/Defining+a+Custom+Stack+and+Services]
* Users using Ambari indirectly like inside other distributions like in
[BigTop|https://bigtop.apache.org/]
