Nexus index of a repository group is incomplete

I have a repository group 'G' with repositories 'A', 'B' and 'C' (in this
order). A is a snapshot repo,
B and C are release repos.
If I download a Nexus index from '.../G/.index' (for instance with Eclipse) I
see only the artifacts
of 'A', not of 'B' nor 'C'.
I wondered how the repository group constructs the combined Nexus index..
