The problem of asym API seems less significant than the problem of immutable 
vector. 

Would you please elaborate more about the problem of immutable vector?
I think it sounds reasonable. It improves code readability, and make the 
program logic easier to reason about. 
In addition, it helps JIT optimization (I am not sure if this is true?). 

Are there any other reasons?
