> [!NOTE] > I discovered this issue and wrote it up with help from Claude Opus 5.5. In `ArrowIpcSetDictionaryEncoding`, `ArrowSchemaInit(schema)` resets the outer field's flags after `Field.nullable` has already been applied. A non-nullable dictionary field decodes as nullable, and the "not null" flag ends up on the dictionary values schema instead. The encoder writes `Field.nullable` from the outer schema's flags, so a non-nullable dictionary column written and read back by nanoarrow loses its non-nullability. -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
