Reranko05 opened a new issue, #55344: URL: https://github.com/apache/arrow/issues/55344
I have been going through Apache Arrow's `good first issue` and `good second issue` tickets and noticed that several remain assigned to contributors even after their PRs have been closed or they've stopped working on them. I am manually checking these issues, unassigning contributors where appropriate, and asking whether they still intend to work on them. This can unintentionally discourage newcomers from picking up these issues. Would it make sense to introduce an automated assignment lifecycle specifically for newcomer-friendly issues? Some possible rules: - **PR closed without merging:** Automatically unassign the contributor. - **No PR opened within 30 days of assignment:** Automatically release the assignment. - **PR marked as needing changes:** If the author has no further activity for 30 days, automatically unassign them. Assignments should remain intact while PRs are awaiting review. The goal is to keep newcomer-friendly issues discoverable and prevent abandoned assignments from discouraging potential contributors from getting involved. -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
