As pointed out by [~StephanErb], when running through the [documentation for
the centos-7 rpm
test|https://github.com/apache/aurora-packaging/tree/master/test/rpm/centos-7]
all listed instructions work, but browsing the Aurora UI does not work in-full.
The thermos observer is configured to to look at the default `/var/lib/mesos`
mesos work directory but the mesos-slave is using the mesos-slave default
`/tmp` dir. The docs should be corrected, or even better, consolidated as much
as possible with the [Aurora install
docs|https://github.com/apache/aurora/blob/master/docs/installing.md].
