Although I did not reproduce this error on 2.7.0 installed from PyPi, it seems
that I can still reproduce it if I install 2.7.0 from sources. In this case, I
agree with [~aaltay] that reverting PR 6602, and cherry-picking a rollback to
2.8.0 is a reasonable course of action until we understand how to fix this
issue. We can then roll 6602 forward, along with the fix.
