When I dig deeper into the logs I get:

Can't verify serialized elements of type SpannerSchema have well defined equals
method. This may produce incorrect results on some PipelineRunner
{code}
I checked and SpannerSchema does not have an equals() method. Could it be this
is needed for the SpannerSchema to be passed as a sideinput on the Dataflow
runner?
