It looks like the table in question in your repro is invalid 
({{"my_project:my_dataset.my_table"}}), which I suspect means that you're 
hitting [this code 
path|https://github.com/apache/beam/blob/ee1ca77f4bef1f74c30790274df1368a9f68271c/sdks/java/io/google-cloud-platform/src/main/java/org/apache/beam/sdk/io/gcp/bigquery/BigQueryServicesImpl.java#L570]
 on the getTable code path and returning nullptr. Does this repro with a valid
