Here is a commit that fixes the serialization issue:
https://github.com/TheNeuralBit/beam/commit/b4a7c092715b9299025cc2f094c0b07895a545be
(the trick was to use `MessageSerializer`). It looks like there are other
issues though. Not sure if it's a problem with the test data or the
implementation.
