We currently garbage collect the buffers after flush, because we weren't
sure we could re-use them. However, GRPC doesn't
hold onto anything after the Send, and since we're in a single threaded
context, we can in fact avoid re-allocating these.
A benchmark was added and run 5 times in sequence before and after. The
results for various write sizes using the go benchstat tool, shows significant
savings on repeated allocations, in particular for large writes, and lower
latency of at least 50% on smaller writes.
