Luis commented on BEAM-12240:
-----------------------------

Hi. I am also looking forward to Java 17 support.

---

Perhaps for a larger discussion within Beam SDK project: "JDK Version Support
Policy".

It came to my attention that some Beam SDK dependencies are starting to drop
Java 8 support:

According to
[https://github.com/grpc/proposal/blob/master/P5-jdk-version-support.md#proposal]

> Following Oracle's Premier Support means Java 8 may be dropped in 2022 and
> Java 11 may be dropped in 2023.

Also error-prone now requires JDK 11:

I wonder how long for should one expect Beam SDK support for Java 8 and Java 11.

> The goal of this task is to validate that the Java SDK and the Java Direct

> 17).
> This is the next iteration of the good old BEAM-2530
