So if I understand correctly, it's just a matter of changing the netty version 
declared here: 
[https://github.com/apache/beam/blob/master/buildSrc/src/main/groovy/org/apache/beam/gradle/GrpcVendoring_1_43_2.groovy#L49]
 and making sure it does not break dependent components, correct?

Do you mind me raising a pull request with such a change?
