It looks like [~jbonofre] wrote MongoDbIO and some other people have
contributed to it. [~chamikara] or [~pabloem] may also be able to point you in
the right direction.
Personally, I would browse the git history and the Jiras to find answers to any
questions

I think the process of building a new code path for a new Mongo version might
not be too difficult of a coding task to get started on, but I don't know this
part of the codebase.
