Decided to split commit, as it requires syntax fixes for
https://github.com/apache/beam/commit/7e3559bbebc0c62eaec4dd21ce065b3a4f1a63fc#diff-10cb71de0a98f02f99aa3869117ab873
which we need to keep on reverting this revert.
