Cyrille Chépélov commented on BEAM-7544:
----------------------------------------

I intend to try using *scio*, which is currently dual-built on scala 2.11 or
scala 2.12.

As the point is to quit writing jobs in scala 2.11 (currently in Scalding+Tez
on an ancient cluster), and it is not possible or advisable to try to run both
scala versions in the same JVM, running a scala 2.12 job on scio built for
scala 2.12 using a flink runner requires beam-runner-flink_2.*12*.

(the real puller is a large body of business-specific dependencies which are
currently dual-built for scala 2.11 and 2.12, the former for jobs and the
latter for every other tools in the zoo ranging from Akka streams to Play UI.
Sooner or later Akka/Play will pull us to 2.13, which we'd love to not resist,
but doing 2.11+2.13 for the heap of libraries doesn't feel like a great option)

> Project: Beam
> Issue Type: Bug
> Components: runner-flink
> Affects Versions: 2.13.0
> Reporter: Cyrille Chépélov
> Priority: Minor
>
> Flink supports scala 2.12 since version 1.7, while BEAM uses Flink 1.8.
> It would be useful to begin supporting scala 2.12 as a preparation towards
> scala 2.13 as well as soon as Flink supports it
