I don't think I'll get time to review this or look into the cursor issue very
deeply. I have a hunch that cursors are still the right approach, they used to
work long ago, and it's a medium-sized task to get them working again. If there
isn't a jira case to fix cursors, please log one. Ask on the dev list and see
if anyone is prepared to work on cursors.
