That is an unusual behavior. Even in languages like Java 1 is an integer
literal and not a byte or short.
But Calcite is very flexible, so you should be able to configure the parser. I
am not sure whether this makes sense in main.
This really is a job for the RelNode layer, which infers types and can generate
literals with narrower types.
