This component exist since many versions and many people use it without
problems. So, it cannot be useless.
If you need a patch asap, I'm afraid you have provide it [1] (look for the
chapter "How to get help faster") + [2]. Otherwise I will work on it in my
spare time if I find some time and do not consider other issues as more
important.
