Henryk Konsek commented on CAMEL-8969:
--------------------------------------

Hi Dan,

Actually Greg A. contributed the initial version of the component (1) to the
Camel IoT Labs. I also plan to extend it with the CoAP server capabilities (the
current version of the component is client-oriented). The component is based on
Californium.

We can add you as a committer to the Camel IoT Labs, so you can contribute to
the code if needed (it is Apache licensed of course). We can also consider
migrating camel-coap to the ASF Camel, but I prefer to avoid this option, as
the original author of the CoAP component is not a ASF Camel committer, so
maintaining the component would become a trouble for him.

Cheers!

> For interacting with devices, we currently have an mqtt component, but it
> would also be good to have a component that speaks CoAP.
> Likely based on http://www.eclipse.org/californium/ as that seems to be the
> most complete at this point (plus has OSGi support already).
> nCoAP could be another option: https://github.com/okleine/nCoAP which has a
> nicer license (BSD), but isn't as complete.
