I've already implemented these metrics like this:
A RoutePolicy which provides counters on exchanges completed and failed. These
are incremented according to the response on " isFailed()" on the exchange in
the "onDone" hook of the RoutePolicy.
An EventNotifier on ExchangeEvents which provides a gauge on inflight
exchanges per route. When the notifier is notified, the "fromRouteId" is
extracted from the event and then used to find the current inflight exchanges
for the route of the exchange using the inflight repository.
If there is any interest in this, I can prepare a pull request?
