Unfortunately it can be difficult to ensure thread-safety; it's much safer to
assume a class is not thread-safe than the other way round.
A prime example of this is SimpleDateTime, which was not originally documented
as being thread-unsafe.
But I do agree that Lang classes should aim for thread safety.
I just don't think it's safe to assume it by default.
