I saw that this feature was still open and couldn't find any discussions about 
it; so I thought that it might be still relevant.

As for my personal point of view (which am not holding strong on), the 
String.matches() is absolutely a fine way of doing it. There are even other 
ways provided by the JDK already. However, I could think of common use cases 
for this when checking raw strings that might contain xml elements or json, 
etc...

Again, I don't have a strong opinion on this feature; I just worked on it since 
it was open and thought "Why not" have it.
