The page [https://central.sonatype.com/artifact/commons-io/commons-io?smo=true]
is correct in the sense that it shows the latest published version based on
calendar time, which is 2.21.0.
Dependabot doesn't show this problem in other Commons components, unless
someone's gone and ignore that large version number for all components; I'm not
sure there a way to check that.
So _some_ software does the right thing.
Publishing a new version will do nothing to change software the sorts based on
version number instead of date. Sometimes sorting on the date is what you want,
sometimes not :(
YMMV.
