Sorry about that. The fallback `append` referenced a non-existent `c` instead of `pattern`; fixed and force-pushed. Checked locally this time with JDK 21: the default `mvn` goal passes (`BUILD SUCCESS`, 89432 tests, plus Checkstyle/PMD/SpotBugs). `ExtendedMessageFormatTest#testUnmatchedQuote` fails on `master` with `IllegalArgumentException: Unterminated quoted string at position 3` and passes with the change. -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
