Sebb commented on NET-258:
--------------------------
Agreed - NOOP during transfer is not an issue (so long as the client is not
sending other control messages), but if the keep-alive thread sent the NOOP
just as the transfer was ending, it could see the end of transfer (226) message.
Would that not cause a problem?
Also there's still the issue of whether the code is thread-safe.

> For routers/firewalls that terminate idle connections, a separate heartbeat
> mechanism may need to be implemented to keep the control connection active.
> Some potential issues:
> * Synchronization between a heartbeat write and a __getReply() on an active
> control connection command;
> * Should use the NOOP command as a heartbeat signal;
> * Make the timeout configurable;
> * Default SocketImpl::setKeepAlive() wont do here.
