Henri Yandell commented on SANSELAN-50:

WEBP Home: http://code.google.com/speed/webp/

License is BSD with a separate patent statement. Bit weird as it seems to be
akin to Apache 2.0 when combined; maybe it's a GPLv2 compatible thing.
There is a Java encoder/decoder; but it is GPLv3
(http://sourceforge.net/news/?group_id=330218&id=293928). Do not look at that.

> A new image format designed by Google is emerging, it uses lossy compression.
> It is used to reduce image file size to speed up web page loading and its
> principal purpose is to supersede JPEG as the primary format for photographs
> on the web. It would be really good to add this new image format :-)
