I misunderstood what was tested; IIUC now it is thus the efficiency of 
"iteration" vs "random access"; so:

Iterator
OpenMapRealVector: 0.3584611999999999 ms
ArrayRealVector: 0.4413703 ms
Random access
OpenMapRealVector: 33.912393599999994 ms
ArrayRealVector: 4.896568800000001 ms

[I must say I didn't expect iteration to be faster than random access for 
"ArrayRealVector".]
But if this result is correct, wouldn't it mean that it is no problem to use 
iteration even on non-sparse vectors...

Apart from the change that tests for "SparseIterator", your patch also makes 
additional modifications (e.g. removing one overloaded "add" method), not 
directly related to this issue... I'll open a new issue for one the 
(implicitly) suggested changes.
