Doing exactly the same analysis and doing somes tests (still running), I came 
to the same conclusion.

The mti index is not random at all (it is an index running through the pool and 
wrapping at the end). Only the content of the pool is random.

The MersenneTwister class is not thread safe, so I also guess there is a 
multi-threading issue there.
