The problem might be that there is no reference to an encoding in the
"build.xml".
I think that the "build.xml" has quietly become unsupported... Please raise the
issue on the "dev" ML, so that we can finally decide whether we should remove
this file (unless someone will step forward to keep it in sync with the "maven"
configuration).
