I did write an LZW encoder yesterday (see
https://svn.apache.org/viewvc/pdfbox/trunk/pdfbox/src/main/java/org/apache/pdfbox/filter/LZWFilter.java
) because the old encode/decoder had a bug that I was unable to find. However
I doubt that it is very fast, and it requires at least JDK6. But the code is
simple, so free to grab it and improve :-) However it is made for PDF files,
the code for TIFF files might be slighly different.
Btw, the encoder is much easier to write than the decoder.
I don't want to test IMAGING from source due to lack of time, I prefer to wait
for the next version.
