I've changed the issue's subject to reflect your description, hope I didn't 
misrepresent you.

You can certainly create archives on a Mac, but the resource fork will not be 
included automatically.  I'm not a Mac user myself so I don't know for sure 
whether there is a way to include it in a programmatic way and how you'd go 
about it.
