In OFBiz we implemented 
[DebugManagedDataSource|http://svn.apache.org/viewvc/ofbiz/ofbiz-framework/trunk/framework/entity/src/main/java/org/apache/ofbiz/entity/connection/DebugManagedDataSource.java?view=markup]

We had to write DebugManagedDataSource::close in order to avoid throwing an 
InterruptedException
