The code has a lot of legacy structure, which is outdated when we use Java 8 or
later. These structures lessen the readability and generally lower the quality
of the code.
IntelliJ makes a good job analyzing these issues and the code should be cleaned
up using after manual consideration. I created a branch with the modifications
and I here is the pull request:
