Matt Juntunen created GEOMETRY-97:
-------------------------------------

Summary: Use Centroid instead of Barycenter
                 Key: GEOMETRY-97
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/GEOMETRY-97
             Project: Apache Commons Geometry
          Issue Type: Improvement
            Reporter: Matt Juntunen

In geometry, the terms "centroid" and "barycenter" are synonyms referring to
the center of mass of a geometric object. The code currently uses "barycenter"
when referring to the center of mass (ex: {{region.getBarycenter()}}). However,
"centroid" seems to be used more frequently. For example, one is far more
likely to find relevant results when searching Google for "polygon centroid"
than "polygon barycenter". Also, "barycenter" has an alternate meaning in
astrophysics, where it refers to the center of mass of two or more orbiting
objects. It seems to me like "centroid" is a better, more geometry-focused term
to use in the code.

See [centroid.|https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centroid].
