If the link is valid, then it goes through the path before it:
        if (fs.existsSync(download_dir)) {
            events.emit('verbose', id + ' library for "' + platform + '" 
already exists. No need to download. Continuing.');
            return Q(download_dir);

So, we'd only call read link (and get data) if you can't access the folder.
