Andrew Grieve commented on CB-7634:
-----------------------------------

Reason we've tightened this up with this release is that Gradle requires
ANDROID_HOME to be set, rather than it being enough to just have the
executables in your path. Would be awesome if you could figure out what the
condition on line 104 should be for ubuntu.

> create should not fail when JAVA_HOME is not set

> Project: Apache Cordova
> Issue Type: Bug
> Components: Android, CLI
> Affects Versions: 3.6.3
> Reporter: Ryan Willoughby

> Labels: android, cli, create
>
> the android create script errors out if JAVA_HOME is not set, and the script
> cannot derive it. But if the javac binary is resolvable (i.e. in the users
> PATH), then setting JAVA_HOME is unnecessary. Don't force users to set it.
> Error message:
> Could not find JAVA_HOME. Try setting the environment variable manually
