Considering the attached file of Apache project screenshots, you will see that
that just about every project has some sort of branding.
A few have no branding as in the case of Apache CXF. Well, I guess the font
used to spell "Apache CXF" and the template used for the website is some sort
of branding, but their is no 'badged' logo or distinct branding associated with
the project.
I recommend adopting some sort of branding for the project.
I think that a few of the images that Eric provides are strong candidates, such
as image #2 in his attached file: CXFlogos1023.pdf, as it's simple and polished.
