I'd also vote for this. 
I'm using Gentoo, so I can't use or at least don't want to use rpm for several 
reasons. I'd like to have the control over my system, that I don't have with 
the rpms especially if there are so many different rpms as in the downloadable 
package. 
I don't mind if there are also rpms but, please, make a simple rpm free .tgz 
archive which just can be extracted into the installation directory, e.g. /opt 
or /opt/OpenOffice.org or whatever. 
Or bring back the installer from OpenOffice.org 1.1.
