Daniel Barclay (Drill) commented on DRILL-2680:
-----------------------------------------------
Here's an example of an assertion with no message--where SOMETHING is needed.
> SELECT CAST( 0 AS FLOAT(2) ) FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.CATALOGS;
Query failed: AssertionError:
Error: exception while executing query: Failure while executing query.
(state=,code=0)
>
> Assertions and thrown AssertionsErrors should include some message text

>
> Drill seems to have a lot of "assert ..." statements and "throw new
> AssertionError()" cases that include no message text.
> Many of them should at least include a phrase or two about what's wrong.
